Seasonal Flowers for August

How is it August already? The summer is running away from us and many of you are taking time out for holidays and family time. A special welcome to our new readers this month and a big thank you to all our regular readers. Your support is fantastic and please do keep on forwarding this to all your friends and family who love flowers. I would love your support in reaching my very bold target of 1000 subscribers by 2026. It seems a massive target but I’m putting it out there to make it real . If everyone reading this could just encourage 5 friends to sign up this month then we can be on our way to the magic 1000. My aim is simple – to bring the beauty of British grown flowers to everyone and encourage us all to consider British grown flowers as our first choice.

August brings Aganpathus and Amaranthus, Asters and of course gorgeous Dahlias. Sunflowers are still around as well as Hydrangeas and Ernygium.

Dahlias

Dahlias are the gift that keeps on giving flowering from July to November. They not only come in a range of shapes and colours and sizes from small to giant (over 25cm in diameter) but by deadheading them they continue to flower for weeks. As well as looking amazing, all dahlia flowers are also edible so scatter their petals on salads for flavour, texture and colour.

My favourites are pink pompoms (Caitlin’s Joy, Natalie G see them here) and the big blousy Cafe au Lait.

The bad news though is that buying cut dahlias in shops and online currently takes a real effort so lets lead the way in making this easier for us all. The best way to source dahlias is from your local flower farm. You can check our Flowers From The Farm but the easiest way is to just do a search for flowers farms near me. They can then tell you where/how you can buy from them. Online you can buy cut Dahlia stems from The Real Flower Company – their Dahlia Farm Box starts at £34.

I hope that by next summer I will be able to provide a resource detailing where you can buy fresh British grown flowers across the country. If you already have places you buy from, please do let me know so I can include them.

FLORAL ACTIVISM

Meet Elizabeth the driving force behind the movement

Hi, love flowers? Then welcome to my world. Join me to celebrate beautiful British grown flowers and everything floral.

Running a flower business, I leant first hand how British grown flowers are naturally better for the planet, are more characterful with fragrance that hasn’t been bred out of them as with many imported flowers and offer so many gorgeous different flowers you’ll never see in the supermarket.

I’ll show you what fabulous British grown flowers are in season and when and where you can buy them, I’ll also tell you about where you can pick your own flowers, flower markets you can visit, flower festivals, exhibitions and shows. Anything to do with flowers from gorgeous new homeware such as vases to stationary and everything in between.
